Konstantía Gourzí enriches the Grafenegg Festival, and not only as its first female Composer in Residence. Also an admired conductor, she is a composer who never loses sight of her audience. Gourzí learned piano in her native Athens before studying composition and conducting in Berlin. She has founded many ensembles to promote contemporary music, particularly in Munich, where she also teaches. As a composer she pushes boundaries, bringing disparate traditions together and searching for new performance forms. One can only wonder how she will approach Grafenegg as a site and a space.
