JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH

St Matthew Passion for soloists, chorus and orchestra BWV 244 (1727/1736)

Introduction/abstract

15 Years Chorszene Lower Austria

In celebration of the 15th anniversary, the Chorszene Niederösterreich presents the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) in an exceptional sing-on-stage performance: Heinz Ferlesch brings together professional musicians, a children‘s choir and 250 singers from ten regional choirs who join in the twelve chorales and the final chorus.

The St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) is one of the great oeuvres of European history of music. In his passions, the subtle dramaturg Bach sets the characters almost stage-opera-like on stage. Like no other composer, Bach creates a dramatic work of art through the combination of Gospel passages, free poetry and chorales.
