Tchaikovsky • Rota • Mendelssohn Bartholdy

On a journey across the Brenner Pass, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Nino Rota act as our guides – Italy played an important role in the lives of all three composers. There is the native Italian Nino Rota, by trade one of the most successful film composers and well worth discovering as a composer for the concert hall.

His suite for Fellini’s «La Strada» is preceded by the enchanting Capriccio italien by Tchaikovsky, who composed the work during a stay in Italy. And the «Italian» by Mendelssohn Bartholdy also originated on a journey taken by the composer to our southern neighbour. Jun Märkl and the Tonkünstler invite you on a trip to the South!
