When, nearly eight years ago, Austria’s musical landscape was first enriched by concerts on the Wolkenturm, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1936 and acclaimed worldwide, was among the first orchestras to perform here.
The orchestra returns to Grafenegg with the same line-up, namely Zubin Mehta, its Music Director for Life. Tradition is also continued in the programming: In 2007 Mahler’s Seventh was the large, stand-alone work on offer. For the 2015 festival, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra performs Anton Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, which the composer himself described as an «enigma».
