LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
Symphony No. 4 B-Dur op. 60
GUSTAV MAHLER
Symphony No. 4 G-Dur
European Union Youth Orchestra · Christina Landshamer · Iván Fischer
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN · GUSTAV MAHLER
Two Fourths: while Beethoven’s op. 60 is mostly only performed as part a cycle, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony is very much present in concert halls. Classically structured and compact, it makes a clear contrast with his powerful Third and the expansive Fifth. Beethoven’s magnificent Fourth is similar: embedded between the «Eroica» and the «Symphony of Fate», it completely foregoes the programmatic impetus of its sister symphonies and, in the best classical tradition, is sufficient unto itself.
The concerts scheduled for Easter Sunday, 12 April with the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra must also be cancelled.
All affected ticket holders will be actively informed in the coming days regarding further developments.
