May we present: the ensembles to the Grafenegg chamber music sessions 2017.

Some of these exceptional trios and quartets will perform at the Best of Chamber Music 4.0 Concert on Friday, 12 May, 7.30pm.

 

Babylon QuartetBabylon Quartet is always on the lookout for expanding the concept of string quartet with new works, use of new media and fusion with other art forms, as well as reimagining and revitalizing the established repertoire. Having won Grote Kamermuziek Prijs 2015, it has performed at some of the most prestigious stages in Netherlands: Het Concertgebouw, De Doelen, TivoliVredenburg and many others. Other notable performances include an exceptionally well-received debut at Janine Jansen’s Internationaal Kamermuziek Festival Utrecht 2015 and a successful premiere of a new piece written for Babylon Quartet by McDaniel Brothers («Ghosts» for string quartet and live electronics) at Classical:NEXT 2016 conference in Rotterdam. ClaviolaSince 2008, the trio Claviola has won numerous national and international awards, for example the Second prize in the International competition Val Tidone in 2011, the First prize in the International chamber music competition «Jurmala 2011» in Latvia and the First prize in National Lithuanian Chamber Music Competition. In 2012, Claviola participated in the 38th international chamber music competition «Lyceum Club International de Suisse» where it came in as a finalist and was awarded with the Special Prize. In 2011, Claviola participated in isa – Summer Academy Prague-Vienna- Budapest where the musicians were nominated as the best chamber music group and received the isa Chamber Music Preis (Isa Kammermusik-Preis). Delta Piano TrioThe Dutch Delta Piano Trio has made a name for itself with its raw, uncompromising musicianship, their energy and a willingness to invest oneself beyond comfort. They approach chamber music as a form of communication, an exchange of ideas, and a shared road of reflection, discovery and evolution. Aiming to shape its own path, the Delta Piano Trio has an eclectic and personal choice of repertoire, encompassing the entire range of the piano trio literature. Since their founding in 2013, it has performed extensively in Europe, Russia and the United States. The trio won the first prize, as well as a special prize for the performance of a twentieth-century work, at the 7th International Vainiunas Chamber Music Competition in Vilnius. The trio had their Concertgebouw debut early 2016 and recorded their debut CD for Naxos Records, which will be released in April this year. Read more...

 

 

Encore Piano TrioDespite short time from founding (2016), the Encore Piano Trio reached the final stage in the Norwegian Academy of Music Chamber Music Competition 2017, performed its debut concert at the Oslo Opera House and participated at the European Chamber Music Academy in Oslo. The Encore Piano Trio also is privileged to work under regular supervision of violist Lars Anders Tomter and pianist Vebjørn Anvik. Trio GaonThe Trio Gaon, brings together three musicians with very different cultural and professional backgrounds who share a common vision - which is represented in the name of the trio (Korean 가온 in German: «Center of theWorld» but also «Generating Warmth»). Both of these meanings can beconnected to a concert performance in which the musicians aspire to make the musical work the 'center of the world' at that moment and through the 'vessel' of music to convey and generate warmth and energy.The Trio was first founded in 2013 by Tae-Hyung Kim and also consists of violinist Jehye Lee and cellist Samuel Lutzker today. Louku Piano TrioRecently, the Louko Piano Trio (consisting of three musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester) was the first prize winner of the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Chamber Music Competition in London in which their performance was praised forbeing «uniquely involving». Their performance has been broadcasted on BBC Radio 3 and as extremely active soloists individually, they have collectively performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Colston Hall, St.Martin-in- the-Fields and the Sydney Opera House. Mosa TrioThe Mosa Trio is a piano trio with a big understanding, feeling and intellectual ability for all specific questions of sound, articulation, phrasing, structure and stylistic sense of the piano trio repertoire. Among others, the musicians won the Second and Honorary Prize for the most beautiful performance of the obligatory contemporary piece at the International Orlando Competition in 2015, the Third Prize, the audience award and the young jury award at the Concours International de Musique de Chambre d’Illzach in 2013 and many more. Since it’s foundation in 2010, the Mosa Trio has played in many of the big venues in the Netherlands and Belgium and overseas, such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, BOZAR in Brussels, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China and at the Festival de Musique d’Illzach. Quartetto AdornoThe name of the Quartetto Adorno is a tribute to the great philosopher Theodor Wiesengrund Adorno who claimed that the chamber music genre kept the relationship between human beings and music authentic, upholding values such as respect and a desire of perfection. The Quartetto Adorno has performed for important Italian promoters such as the Società dei Concerti in Milan and the Cremona Museo del Violino. In 2016, they made debut in «Sala Verdi» playing also with legendary pianist Paul Badura-Skoda. The Quartet also received the «Zweite Wiener Schule Preis» award held by the isa Sommerakademie for the best interpretation of a Second Viennese School Quartet and performed live radio broadcasted at ORF Radio KulturHaus in Vienna. Quartetto DelficoThe Quartetto Delfico - formed by four friends, all of them working with various symphony orchestras and chamber groups - is specialized in historically informed performances alongside a great classical and romantic repertoire and in the discovery of the Italian repertoire for string quartet. It played at many festivals such as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Ravenna Festival or at the Miry Conzertzaal in Gent.Since 2013, the Quartetto Delfico is involved in the project «Quartetti d'Italia» promoted by the Institute of Music history of Abruzzo, performing live some freshly discovered music gems. Since 2014, the quartet cooperates with the «Luigi Cherubini Conservatory» in Florence on the rediscovery and promotion of the quartet compositions contained in the Fondo Pitti archive. Simply QuartetShortly after it was founded, the Simply Quartet won the First Prize at the Shanghai Chamber Music Competition in 2009 and the Special Prize at the Beijing International Quartet Competition 2011. The ensemble performed some of Haydn's string pieces in the «Haydn total» recording programme launched by the Department of Chamber Music of the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Joseph Haydn Institute for Chamber Music, Early Music and New Music in Vienna. Since 2016 the quartet has been playing in a new line up and, since then, has won the First Prize at the seventh International Joseph Haydn Kammermusik Wettbewerb 2017 as well as the Special Prizes for the best interpretation of a composition by Joseph Haydn and the best interpretation of a piece composed for the competition. Stefan Zweig TrioThe Vienna-based Stefan Zweig Trio was established in 2012 by three musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the mdw and the Paris Conservatoire. They made their Wigmore Hall debut in January 2015. Through the Trio’s choice of name, the musicians sought to underline their affinity for the longstanding musical tradition of Vienna and the vivid emotional oeuvre of Stefan Zweig.
