Patricia Kopatchinskaja is one of the most exciting musicians working today. Her preference for playing barefoot is only the most obvious of her trademarks. Musical works don’t always live up to their labels. But Tchaikovsky’s «Fate Symphony» in E minor delivers what it promises: resounding through its dreamy melodies is exactly what the composer himself set down in writing over the first movement: «complete resignation before fate, which is the same as the inscrutable predestination of fate». Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conclude their two-day guest visit to the Wolkenturm with this masterpiece. At the start of the concert, audience favourite Gautier Capuçon makes his appearance with Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.
