Beethoven only wrote one opera, but what an opera! A musical plea for freedom and loyalty, his «Fidelio» is a vivid demonstration in sound and image of the need to defend the basic values of human togetherness. At the heart of the outstanding cast for this co-production by the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and the Grafenegg Festival are Jonas Kaufmann as Florestan and Leonore Anje Kampe as Leonore. Jaap van Zweden, since 2018 Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, conducts the orchestra of the renowned Swiss festival at the Wolkenturm.
