ROBERT SCHUMANN
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in a minor op. 54
FRANZ SCHUBERT
Symphony No. 8 in C major D 944 «The Great»
The duration of Schubert's «Great C Major Symphony» prevented its wider acceptance for years, until Robert Schumann praised its «heavenly length» in a glowing review. Schumann's Piano Concerto is somewhat shorter, but just as full of romantic fantasy. The interpreters of these two popular works are pianist Jan Lisiecki and conductor Paavo Järvi.
Hélène Grimaud had to cancel her participation in this concert due to the ongoing travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. We are pleased that Jan Lisiecki is stepping in at short notice with an unchanged programme.
