Music the listener can build on: Mahler’s sweeping works don’t leave the audience to fend for themselves – their memorable melodies serve as faithful signposts. But there’s also a transcendental sense in which his powerful «Resurrection Symphony» points the way and offers reassurance. The dark funeral rites of the first movement are followed at the end of the symphony by a glorious rising from the dead. With a stunning cast of performers, this promises to be a night to remember – under a glittering night sky, naturally.
