The Tonkunstler Orchestra opens the Schlossklänge season with a magnificent programme of works by composers that also represent a kind of kick-off point in music history. Hector Berlioz and Franz Liszt are considered the fathers of a movement whose compositions were guided by non-musical ideas and content (and that made listeners sit up and take notice with all manner of other innovations). In five ardent movements Berlioz traces the story of a young musician consumed by love. The soloist in Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 is the North Macedonian virtuoso Simon Trpčeski. Taking the podium is the young French conductor Fabien Gabel, who already has several successful projects with the Tonkunstler Orchestra under his belt.
