Introduction/abstract

The musical lives of women in an exciting Matinée.

Il Giardino Armonico · Anna Prohaska · Giovanni Antonini

«SERPENT AND FIRE»

The celebrated soprano Anna Prohaska immerses herself deeply in the characters she embodies as a performer; thus her programme «Serpent & Fire» is close to her heart. In it she portrays two beautiful and powerful women, Dido and Cleopatra, who were destined neither for victory nor a happy end. Together with the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, who last gave a matinée in the Auditorium in 2022, she follows the footsteps of her historical and mythical counterparts. Musical gems by Purcell, Hasse, Handel, and many others provide the material from which she draws the respective portraits.
